GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Fox Valley saw its second shooting in as many days on Tuesday as one person was shot by a Grand Chute police officer. That happened while officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant at a multi-family complex.
“While attempting to serve that arrest warrant, officers encountered an unknown situation which resulted in law enforcement officers discharging their firearms,” Grand Chute Community Resource Officer Dylan Davis said. “A subject was injured in the incident and is being treated at a local hospital with what we believe at this time to be non-life-threatening injuries.”
No names were released, and the Outagamie County Sheriff’s office is now handling the investigation. Davis said it’s still in the preliminary stages.
“I’m not sure what the series of events leading up to the officer involved critical incident was,” Davis said. “What was present is unknown at this time. That information will all come out through the investigation.”
This shooting comes on the heels of a another shooting a day earlier at Erb Park in Appleton.
“As we continue to investigate that, we believe it was centralized to the park area here, we’re still sorting out a lot of the details of what happened here,” Meghan Cash with the Appleton Police Department said. “That’s why there’s a heavy police presence in this area, we’ll continue to need that until we know further of what happened.”
One person was injured in the park and another taken into custody. Appleton police have since added extra patrols to the area.
Despite the unfortunate timing of both shootings, Grand Chute police still held their National Night Out event on Tuesday. They say it shows the commitment they have to ensuring the Fox Valley is a safe place to live.
“It’s very unfortunate,” Davis said. “We have officers serving and protecting our community all the time and our special event that is happening and going on right now is still happening and it’s a great way to build those community relations.”
Officers say the incident was limited to the residence, and there is no present danger to the public.
More details on the incident are expected to be released at a later time.
