Milwaukee Brewers
The best team in baseball showed why this weekend as the Atlanta Braves completed a three game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers with an 8-6 victory at Truist Park on Sunday afternoon. It was a battle of long balls as Milwaukee kept slugging their way to a lead, only to see the Braves answer in the next at bat. Christian Yelich scored on a first inning wild pitch but Atlanta answered with a pair of runs in their first at bat. Yelich and new arrival Carlos Santana hit back to back homers in the third, it was the first for Santana since he was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Matt Olson returned the favor with a three run blast off starter Colin Rea in the bottom half. The Brewers then put up three in sixth with William Contreras delivering a two run double for a 6-5 lead, only to see Marcel Ozuna go yard against Hoby Milner in the bottom of the sixth to get it back even. Joel Payamps then got tagged by Olson for a two run blast in the bottom of the 8th for the final margin. Olson now leads the National League with 35 homers and 88 runs driven in. The Braves are now 67-36, the top record in baseball while the Brewers drop to 57-49 and they also drop to second place in the NL Central race, a half game behind Cincinnati which routed the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday 9-0. Milwaukee’s road trip wraps up with a three game series against the Nationals in Washington D.C. Corbin Burnes will be on the hill against Jake Irvin. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:30 PM with a 6:05 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
Pitcher Julio Teheran, who took the loss Saturday night giving up 9 runs on 11 hits, was placed on the injured list Sunday with a hip problem. The Brewers have recalled reliever Peter Strzelecki from Triple A Nashville.
