Milwaukee Brewers
Baseball’s best team was tested but the Atlanta Braves got the better of the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend at American Family Field, taking two of three games in the series with a come from behind effort in the rubber game on Sunday. Atlanta defeated Milwaukee 4-2 thanks to Ozzie Albies who swatted an opposite field, three run homer off Elvis Peguero in the top of the 8th inning. Starter Julio Teheran gave up a solo shot to Travis d’Arnaud in the second but that would be the only run he allowed on three hits through six innings of work. Brice Turang got the game even with a solo home run in the third and Owen Miller put Milwaukee on top with a 4th inning sacrifice fly. The Brewers got out of a jam with a crash in the 7th as Turang held on to a pop fly while colliding with rookie Sal Frelick in the 7th. Rasiel Iglesias finished it off by striking out the side in the 9th. Milwaukee’s only win of the series came Saturday night as Frelick made his major league debut one of the most memorable in Brewer franchise history. He had three hits in his first three at bats, the third single tied the game at three and his sacrifice fly in the 8th brought home the eventual winning run. Frelick was the first Brewer to record three hits with two RBI and a couple of runs scored in his first big league game and he also made a pair of spectacular catches at the right field wall. The Brewers now stand 55-45 and their lead in the NL Central is down to one half game over the resurgent Cincinnati Reds who swept Arizona over the weekend too run their win streak to five. Colin Rea will face Graham Ashcroft in the first a three game series for the division lead in Milwaukee Monday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:35 Pm with a 7:10 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
