APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new green space is being established on Appleton’s south side.
City leaders announced a new 32-acre conservancy in Southpoint Commerce Park Wednesday.
The conservancy will preserve threatened wetlands and wooded areas in the city while addressing the lack of parkland on Appleton’s south side.
Mayor Jake Woodford says this will benefit generations to come.
“The addition of this new Appleton conservancy will be among the largest single additions of parkland we have made as a community. And what if 102 years ago our community had not set aside the land to create Pierce Park? It’s difficult to imagine,” he said.
Over the next 18-24 months, the department of parks facility and management will create a conservancy masterplan. It’s likely to include non-paved, non-lit trails for walkers and cyclists.
