GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Dr. Claude Tiller Jr., the new superintendent of the Green Bay Area Public School District, kicked off his Talking with Tiller Tour on Tuesday at Grounded Café in Green Bay.
“What I’m trying to do on the Talking with Tiller Tour is build up emotional capital,” said Dr. Tiller. “When school starts I’ll be with the students, so I want to meet the community and hear what they need.”
Through the tour, students, teachers, and the community are able to have individual discussions with him about his vision for the future of the district, and about specific issues.
“He assured me that diversity, equity, and inclusion is important, and we can discuss these issues with civility,” said Mark Schahczenski. “I was glad to hear that.”
“I’m really glad that he’s intentional about meeting parents where they are; that’s one of his priorities,” said Luis Franco.
“He is open to being part of the community, and listening and seeking to find out what people’s thoughts are,” said Ingrid Parker-Hill.
Dr. Tiller officially started the superintendent position on July 1, and is making plans for changes in a few key areas.
“We’re working on literacy scores, we’re working on math scores,” said Dr. Tiller. “I’m working with the teaching and learning team so we can tweak the curriculum to make sure we’re hitting the mark the state has given us.”
The next stop on the Talking with Tiller Tour is on Tuesday, July 25 from 7 to 9 a.m. at the McDonald’s on Shawano Ave. in Green Bay.
