GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A popular street in the heart of Downtown Green Bay, Washington Street, was sectioned off to hold July’s Summer Block Party on Sunday. The monthly summer event features live music alongside opportunities for games, food and drink, face painting and other free activities for the family.
Some Washington Street businesses including Kittner’s Pub and Al’s Hamburgers were offering food and drink specials to carry out
Downtown Green Bay Inc events manager Jeff Tilkens described the party as a great family opportunity.
“Our organization’s goal is to do whatever we can to bring people downtown and we thought this street, this block of Washington Street’s a really fun block. It’s a unique opportunity, there’s so many entertainment venues down here. We got together with them and we said ‘How can we help you guys?'”
Sunday Block Parties were set up for one each in the months of June, July and August to be held on a Sunday afternoon to cater to the whole family.
“It’s a Sunday. Sunday-Fun-Day. So we thought it’d be great opportunity. Just close the road and to bring some business in for these businesses. We’ve got coffee shops, we’ve got bars, we’ve restaurants,” explained Tilkens. “So we’re really trying to bring people downtown. Sunday Fun Day is a great opportunity to come and have some fun.”
There is another block planned for next month, on August 6th.
And Tilkens was able to tease that there is an bonus party currently in the works. It’ll be a Packer kick-off celebration for the month of September, to cheer on the home team as they head down to Chicago.
