(WNFL) – The Milwaukee Brewers bullpen gave up 5 runs in the last 3 innings, allowing the Pittsburgh Pirates to walk off with an 8-7 win on Friday in Pittsburgh.
The Brewers had taken a 4-0 lead in the third inning on a run-scoring double by Christian Yelich, a fielder’s choice, an RBI single by Rowdy Tellez and a sacrifice fly by Willy Adames.
Pittsburgh responded with 3 runs in their half of the fourth inning off Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta. The rally was highlighed by a 2-run double by Nick Gonzalez.
The Brewers added 3 more runs in the seventh inning on a run-scoring double by Owen Miller and a 2-run double by Bryce Turang.
Pittsburgh got 1 run back in its half of the seventh on a single by Andrew McCutcheon off Brewers reliever Thomas Pannone.
They added another run in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Jake Suwinski on Pannone.
Then came the fateful ninth inning. Matt Bush gave up a run-scoring double to McCutcheon to make it 8-6 Milwaukee. Carlos Santana then drilled a 2-out, 2-run home run off Bush to give Pittsburgh the win.
With the loss, the Brewers drop 1 game behind Cincinnati in the National League Central.
