GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Wednesday marked the first official day of summer; Many took to the pools in Green Bay to cool off and enjoy the day.
Recreation Manager Ann Moeller says their lifeguard numbers are looking good, and the pools are thriving.
“We have busy pools every day; we’ve got a couple summer camps and day care groups coming in during the week,” said Moeller. “Our concessions line is long so we’re selling lots of fun treats. Everyone is enjoying the pools.”
Resch Aquatic Center is usually the busiest pool; with approximately 1 thousand visitors each day. Joannes Aquatic Center sees about 5-6 hundred visitors every day. Colburn Pool, which wasn’t available for open swim last summer, is expected to have a few hundred visitors daily.
Moeller noted that Resch Aquatic Center is well-suitable for families and kids of all ages, while different slides and features at Joannes Aquatic Center tend to attract older kids and teenagers.
Colburn Pool is a traditional pool often used simply to cool down or swim laps.
While the first weeks of summer have presented challenges with regards to lifeguard staffing, Moeller says all pools should be open full time for the rest of the summer beginning next week.
