GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A scholarship program aims to build women up in one of Wisconsin’s largest industries.
The Wisconsin Paper Council hosted its annual meeting at Lambeau Field Tuesday.
As part of its partnership with Ahlstrom, the council launched a new ‘Women in Forest Products’ scholarship program, to provide financial support to graduating female seniors pursuing a career in the forestry products or related field.
To help get the program started, Ahlstrom donated $20,000.
Addie Teeters, head of Marketing Communications & Public Affairs for Ahlstrom, and current vice chair of the Wisconsin Paper Council board of directors says it’s been a long-time coming.
“Some of the women who I’ve had the honor of mentoring me have kind of echoed, ‘we wish we would had something like this sooner,’ really just to pave the way and I think it just opens up the conversation a little bit more about what we need to do to challenge our organizations to perhaps adapt differently in order to welcome more women into the workforce, but it also creates that safe space for women to ask about leadership opportunities or to ask about working in a labor environment where traditionally maybe they didn’t feel comfortable in,” she said.
The scholarship fund is housed with the Women’s Fund for the Fox Valley Region, Inc.
