Brewer homers sting Rays

Three long balls ensured the Milwaukee Brewers did not lose all three games to the best team in baseball this weekend.   The Crew avoided the broom and salvaged the final game of the series against the Tampa Bay Rays with a 6-4 victory Sunday at Tropicana Field.  Willy Adames, celebrating the second anniversary of his trade from Tampa to Milwaukee, opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second.  Rowdy Tellez hit a two run blast in the 4th to put the Brewers up 3-0 but Freddy Peralta’s solid start was spoiled by one pitch in the bottom half of that inning.  After walking a pair, Josh Lowe struck for a three run shot to even the score.    Peralta would last six innings and give up just the three runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts to earn his 5th win of the season.   The Brewers answered the Lowe home run by taking up three of their own in the top of the 5th.    William Contreras launched a two run homer and Brian Anderson delivered a key, two out RBI single to score Christian Yelich.   Joel Payamps came on to work a clean seventh but Peter Strzlecki got into trouble in the 8th, allowing a run to make it 6-4 but Devin Williams was able to finish it off with a four out save.    The Brewers were just the 4th team to beat the Rays in Tampa this season as they lead baseball with a 34-13 record.  Milwaukee improves to 25-21 and despite winning only two games on the road trip, they return home with a one game lead in the NL Central over Pittsburgh.   The Brewers open a weeklong homestand with another hot club, the defending champion Houston Astros who have won 7 straight and 9 of their last 10.   Corbin Burnes will be on the mound in the series opener against Christian Javier of the Astros.  Pre-game coverage begins at 6:05 PM with a 6:40 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
