GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — After four months of working to build consensus to address the Green Bay Area Public School District’s aging facilities, declining enrollment, and upcoming budget deficit, the Facilities Task Force will be presenting it recommendations to the Board of Education at 5 p.m. on May 8 at the District Office Building, Room 331. The meeting will be live streamed on the Board’s YouTube channel.
“This is a multi-year process,” said Director of Communications, Lori Blakeslee. “So this is sort of ending to that beginning phase of having looked at the facilities, and bringing in a task force to provide some recommendations.”
The Task Force will present schema 12; which would close 12 buildings:
- Beaumont Elementary
- Doty Elementary
- Elmore Elementary
- Keller Elementary
- Kennedy Elementary
- McArthur Elementary
- Tank Elementary
- Wequiock Elementary
- Washington Middle School
- Leonardo da Vinci School for Gifted Learners (K-8)
- Minoka-Hill (K-12)
- District Office
The Board of Education is providing several opportunities for the community to provide feedback on the recommendations prior to taking a vote on Monday, June 5, at a Special Board Meeting.
Tabletop discussions will begin with a presentation of the Task Force recommendations by the group that has led the Task Force work. Participants will be assigned to a table and participate in a facilitated discussion about the recommendations. These opportunities allow individuals to share their thoughts and opinions, and also hear each other’s perspectives. Notes will be collected and shared with the Board of Education. Translators will be available. Tabletop discussions will be held on:
- Tuesday, May 9 – 5:30 p.m. – West High School Commons
- Wednesday, May 10 – 5:30 p.m. – East High School Commons
There will also be a Public Forum at Washington Middle School’s auditorium. Entrance to the school is in the parking lot behind the building. Each individual who signs up to speak will be given three minutes to share their feedback to the Board. The Board of Education will be present to listen only. Individuals wishing to speak will be able to sign up in the auditorium foyer between 4-7 p.m. The forum will last until everyone who has signed up has had an opportunity to speak. To ensure everyone who wishes to speak is able to participate, if there are groups of individuals intending to speak on the same topic, they are encouraged to select a spokesperson to speak on behalf of the group. Translators will be available. The Public Forum will be held on:
- Wednesday, May 24 – 4 p.m. – Washington Middle School Auditorium
A Feedback Form has also been created, where community members can submit their questions or comments about the Task Force’s recommendations. An FAQ has been added to the website, to address questions asked on the form.
