The Colorado Rockies rolled the Milwaukee Brewers 7-1 Wednesday night at Coors Field. The Brewers have now dropped three of their last four series and are in danger on getting swept for the first time as Colorado, the last place team in the NL West, is riding it’s first three game winning streak of the year. The biggest damage was done in the fourth inning when third baseman Mike Brosseau was charged with an error on a sharp grounder that ate him up. Starter Eric Lauer gave up a defensive run scoring single to Elias Dias, walked a batter and then Alan Trejo hit the first pitch he saw to the left center field wall for a bases clearing, three run double. All four runs were unearned. Lauer got through 4 and two thirds allowing the four runs on just four hits with three walks and six strikeouts. It only got worse as Charlie Blackman and Kris Bryant launched solo home runs for a 7-0 lead. Milwaukee avoided the shutout in the 9th thanks to three walks and an RBI groundout from Tyrone Taylor. Kyle Freeland got the win. The left hander had to leave after five innings with a sore neck but allowed just three hits with 5 strikeouts. Former Brewer Brent Suter made his first appearance against his old team and got through a clean sixth allowing a hit. Milwaukee’s troubles against left handed pitching continued. They are now 5-4 against southpaws this year and their .623 OPS ranks next to last in the major leagues. Luke Voit, brought on board this year to play first against lefties, is just one for 26. Milwaukee drops to 18-12 on the season and they’ll send Wade Miley to the hill against Connor Seabold in the series finale. Pre-game coverage begins at 1:35 PM with a 2:10 PM first pitch on WNFL.
