Milwaukee Brewers
The Detroit Tigers made it two in a row over the Brewers and for the second straight day, did it with one big swing. Detroit beat Milwaukee 4-3 Tuesday night at American Family Field by plating all four runs in the second inning off starter Eric Lauer. Kerry Carpenter did the major damage with a three run homer. Lauer struggled through three innings, throwing 40 pitches in the fateful second and leaving after splitting a finger nail. He said after the game the nail didn’t bother him as much as his control, heading to the showers after giving up four runs on 8 hits with a pair of walks. The Milwaukee bullpen shut things down from there, working six scoreless innings but the offense never got going, finishing with just five hits for the second straight game. Christian Yelich and Owen Miller each drove in a run and Rowdy Tellez connected for his 8th homer of the year in the 6th. The Brewers are dealing with their first losing streak of the season, now at three games and will take a 15-9 record into the series finale Wednesday afternoon. Freddy Peralta will face Michael Lorenzen in the Milwaukee matinee. Pre-game coverage begins at 12:05 PM with a 12:40 PM first pitch on WNFL.
Manager Craig Counsell announced on Tuesday that rookie outfielder Garrett Mitchell will undergo surgery next week to repair a torn labrum. He’s expected to miss the remainder of the season. Relief pitcher Gus Varland will make a rehab appearances with the Wisconsin TimberRattlers Thursday through Sunday.
