A five run rally in the seventh inning completed a three game sweep of the Seattle Mariners as the Milwaukee Brewers wrapped up an impressive West Coast road trip with a 5-3 victory at T-Mobile Park Wednesday afternoon. Seattle grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third when Julio Rodriguez hit a two run homer off starter Eric Lauer but he recovered strong, not allowing another hit until he left with two outs in the 8th inning and a three run lead thanks to the Brewer offense. They belted a half dozen singles in the 5 run rally, Luke Voit drove in the first run after the bases got loaded. Brice Turang, who made a couple of defensive gem plays came through with a go ahead two run single and pinch hitter Rowdy Tellez brought home two more with a single. Peter Strzlecki got the final out of the 8th but got into trouble in the ninth as the Mariners loaded the bases and Jarred Kelenic, a Milwaukee native, made it 5-3 with an RBI single. Matt Bush came on to escape the jam and earn his first save of the season. The Brewers went 7-3 on the trip. They dropped their only series of the season to date in Arizona but followed that up by taking three of four against the Padres in San Diego and capped it with a series sweep of the Mariners. Milwaukee, now 14-5 on the year, will have off Thursday traveling home and they’ll open a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox Friday night at American Family Field.
The Brewers placed rookie outfielder Garrett Mitchell on the 10 day injured list Wednesday with a left shoulder subluxation. The injury occurred on a throw from the outfield on Tuesday night. Milwaukee called up Blake Perkins from AAA Nashville to take his roster spot.
