APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Over 45 Fox Valley businesses were on display Wednesday as Appleton West High School hosted its first career fair.
Over 1,000 students, ranging from freshmen to seniors, attended the event.
Students had the chance to converse with potential employers and apply for a job on the spot as well. Some students even walked out with a job offer.
“So, instead of the businesses kind of waiting for that email or phone call or message from students, they get a whole bunch of applicants at one time,” explained Kelly Endter, Appleton Area School District’s academic and career planning coordinator. “And they really get to see the personality of the students and they get to talk with them in their setting.
If a conversation went particularly well, businesses could hand out stars, which would allow students to enter into a drawing. Additional entries will be given out to students who completed applications and were successfully hired, but that will require time to follow up on.
Endter said she hopes the hiring and career fair will become an annual event for the school.
