BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – From egg hunts to petting zoos, there was something for everyone in Northeast Wisconsin this Easter Weekend.
With just under 3,000 eggs to find, no time was wasted at Optimist Park in Allouez.
Except this egg hunt is different than most, it is accessible to everyone.
“We have children here, but we also have younger adults with disabilities that come and take part in this event, which is a wonderful thing because they enjoy it just as much as everybody else,” says You Belong Administrative Director, Greg Behrend.
A Green Bay nonprofit organization, You Belong, put on the hunt.
“We work with families with young children and folks that live with disabilities,” says Behrend.
Morgan Burt attended the event with her brother Jeremy.
“We helped J by helping him point the eggs out and we picked them up for him, sometimes there are kids that give him the eggs…He loves it, he’s such happy little boy and I’m proud to be his big sister,” says Burt.
Program Assistant Sami Schmechel says she had so much fun filling the eggs and loved to see the kids’ reactions.
“I love kids, I love the kids, I love teaching and I just love this whole thing really,” says Schmechel.
Many people spent their Easter Weekend with more animals than just bunnies, the NEW Zoo held its annual ‘EggStravaganZoo’ with plenty of activities to keep the little ones busy.
“We’ve got the Easter Bunny here in the restaurant, we’re also doing the treat stations with the candy so kids get their little Easter basket of candy,” says NEW Zoo Curator of Animals, Drew Dinehart.
The NEW Zoo also had a scavenger hunt with Easter creatures, free carousel rides, and other games.
Kids attending, were not disappointed.
“I had so much fun here, and I found Bunny Snakes,” says Caroline Marin.
“She got to see all the animals, and feed the giraffe and play a bunch of games,” says Kristen Marin.
Families say they enjoyed doing something a bit different for Easter.
“It’s nice to just not be at home and to get out finally, the weather is nice, it’s nice to see the animals and let the kids check everything out so it’s good,” says Blake Ravet.
