APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The biggest Flag Day parade in the U.S. will return to the streets of Appleton.
The theme of the 72nd Appleton Flag Day Parade is “A Salute to American Courage and Valor.”
It will be held Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. with the parade grand marshal, as always, the United States Flag. And escorting the flag is Appleton native, Vietnam veteran and former Pittsburgh Steelers running back, and four-time Super Bowl champion, Rocky Bleier. Bleier’s story has inspired millions, and he continues to advocate for veterans and others impacted by post-traumatic stress disorder. Bleier also serves on the board of The National Flag Foundation.
Each year the Flag Day Parade honors a branch of the military and this year’s event spotlights the United States Coast Guard, which will be represented in the 2023 Flag Day Parade by two Honorary Parade Marshals: Retired Two-Star Rear Admiral Steven Day and Commander Doreen McCarthy, Deputy Commander, Sector Lake Michigan.
The Appleton Parade Committee is accepting applications to be in the 72nd Appleton Flag Day Parade. Organizations interested in participating, must complete and submit an official application before April 15, 2023. Groups can access the applications online.
