Assistant professor of philosophy at St. Norbert College, Ben Chan, appears on Jeopardy! PC: Fox 11 Online
DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — What is: A Northeast Wisconsin professor making an appearance on “Jeopardy!?”
Ben Chan, an assistant professor of philosophy at St. Norbert College in De Pere, will compete on the long-running game show Wednesday, April 12.
Chan said getting ready for the show took a lot of studying on topics like English monarchs, presidents, and world capitals.
“I made a lot of flashcard decks on topics that I know are central to the Jeopardy cannon,” said Chan. “In the end I had about 25 hundred flashcards.”
Due to show rules, Chan is not allowed to say how he did until the “Jeopardy!” episode airs.
Chan said that part of his inspiration to get on the show was a trivia league he was introduced to over the summer by a friend.
“I realized that was something I’m really good at,” said Chan. “There are former Jeopardy contestants and former Jeopardy winners in that league, and I was competitive with them.”
Chan also said a friend of his, who has since passed away, told him he would be good on the show. That was another of Chan’s motivations.
The cheer him on, St. Norbert College is hosting a public watch party with Chan on the first floor of the Mulva Library when the show starts at 6 p.m. on April 12.
If you can’t make the watch party, you can see how he did by tuning into channel 11 at 6 p.m.
