GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The city of Green Bay is getting money to help battle flooding along the East River.
The $86,000 grant comes from the Fund for Lake Michigan.
City officials say they will use the money to develop flood mitigation controls on municipally owned or managed lands within the East River watershed.
“The time for planning flood solutions is now. Climate resiliency involves sound planning, project implementation, and policy change,” city resiliency coordinator Melissa Schmitz said in a news release. “The study will identify shovel-ready projects to implement in the short-term, ideally before there is another high-impact flood.”
The goal is to plan and implement systems that move or store floodwaters at three locations on municipal lands.
The project is set to begin this summer and finish by spring 2024.
