ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The new home of Discover Green Bay reached a milestone Friday.
The Green Bay area tourism organization held a topping off ceremony for its new visitor center.
The $8 million project broke ground last year at the corner of Lombardi Avenue and Argonne Street.
Returning to the site since the groundbreaking eight months ago, Governor Tony Evers spoke and signed the beam.
Last year, the Discover Green Bay Visitor Center received $2.5 million in funding from Gov. Evers’ Tourism Capital Grant Program.
President of Discover Green Bay, Brad Toll, says the project is currently on schedule and on budget.
He says he hopes to get the keys in August, with the center opening to the public by September, just in time for the start of the Green Bay Packers’ season.
The visitor center will showcase all that Greater Green Bay has to offer, including shopping, restaurants, history, sports and other activities.
The new visitor center will replace one which had operated since 1969 in the Brown County Memorial Complex. That complex was demolished in 2019 to make way for Resch Expo.
