APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Appleton’s first in the nation “No Mow May,” may be going away.
The study underpinning it has been retracted by the website which published it.
The research paper was published by Alder Israel Del Toro, an Associate Professor of Biology at Lawrence University, and claimed more bees were found in local yards that did not cut their grass for the month.
Alder Chad Doran says other research questions the benefits.
“With that knowledge and the fact that the study really doesn’t show that there’s any benefit either, there’s no reason for us to keep this ordinance on the books.” said Doran. “It was divisive enough to the community to begin with and causes a host of other issues.”
