The Green Bay Phoenix women will open the WNIT tournament against the Niagara Purple Eagles on Thursday night at the Kress Center. The women’s bracket was finalized on Monday. It will be third meeting all time between the schools, the first since 1988. Despite missing out on the NCAA tournament after falling to Cleveland State in the conference tournament final last week, the regular season Horizon League champions enter the WNIT with a 27-5 record, best among all 64 teams in the field. Niagara is 18-12 on the year after finishing tied for second in the Metro Atlantic Conference regular season race at 16-4. They reached the MACC tournament final where they were upset by Manhattan 81-68. The WNIT opener will tip off at 7:00 PM at the Kress Center. Tickets, at $10.00 each, go on sale Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM.
