GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – When it comes to the future of Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, fans are split.
“I’m a Rodgers fan,” Chris Fredrickson said. “If Rodgers wants to come back, I’d love for him to come back.”
“It’s kind of frustrating and a little bit annoying the way that he’s told us multiple times now that we aren’t going to be dealing with a charade,” Brett Johnson said. “I wouldn’t be too heartbroken to see him find himself in New York and have to deal with things he wants to do with the New York Media.
“I love him. I think he’s done great for the franchise, but I think it’s time to move on and get the draft picks and see what they have with Jordan Love,” Matt Champeau said.
The four time MVP quarterback has been in talks with the New York Jets, and the Packers front office would try to move him if he requests a trade. Champeau said it’s the right way to handle a tough situation.
“I appreciate everything he’s done, and I think he’s been a great quarterback and still can be a great quarterback, but with the cap situation and everything, get your draft picks, move on and see what you have with Jordan Love. If Jordan Love is good, then he’s good. If not, you’re going to have a high draft pick to get one next year.”
Others agree that moving on would be the right call if Rodgers wants to.
Johnson said the more important element is what the Packers would get in return.
“Obviously, we would hope, as fans and the team alike would like, to get some form of a haul for him — something that could immediately help the team.”
Not everyone, however, is ready to go in a different direction at the position.
But Chris Fredrickson says he wants Rodgers’ happiness to be the top priority.
“It’s cool that they’re going to honor the trade request if he wants it, and it’s not like they’re holding him hostage,” Fredrickson said. “Some people might say that he’s holding us hostage, but its good to see that Murphy wants the best for Aaron and what’s best for the Packers.”
The Packers say they hope to know for themselves before free agency starts on Wednesday.
