K-9 deputy Rip PC: Fox 11 Online
ROSENDALE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s K-9 deputy helped take a high-speed chase suspect into custody.
It all started around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the town of Waupun when a deputy tried to stop a vehicle for speeding at 100 mph on Highway 151 near Highway 49.
During the pursuit, the vehicle continued to speed north on Highway 151, causing several other vehicles to take evasive action to avoid a crash.
The deputy was able to get the suspect license plate which was registered to owners in Oshkosh.
At that time, the pursuit was terminated in hopes the driver would slow down and not cause a safety hazard for other drivers on the roadway.
A short time later, dispatch received multiple calls, reporting the same vehicle was still speeding and recklessly passing other vehicles on Highway 26.
A Rosendale police officer was nearby and a second pursuit began with two Fond du Lac County Sheriff deputies joining in.
The vehicle ultimately went into a ditch on Highway 26 where it came to a stop in a farm field. The driver got out of the vehicle and ran away.
The suspect’s footprints led to a nearby residence that had several abandoned outbuildings. Sheriff’s K9 deputy “Rip” and his handler were able to track the suspect to one of the buildings. Upon seeing Rip, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
Officials learned the 18-year-old Oshkosh man is currently out on signature bonds for four different felony cases in Dane County. His alleged offenses in those cases include burglary, dwelling, battery, criminal damage to property and bail jumping.
He is currently being held at the Fond du Lac County Jail on new charges including two counts of felony flee/elude, first-degree reckless endangering safety, resisting an officer and several other traffic violations.
Both pursuits covered a total distance of approximately 7.5 miles. There were no injuries or property damage from the pursuit.
