GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — At Tuesday’s Finance Committee meeting, discussion will include how much a lawsuit defending the audio recording system at City Hall could cost.
There will be no official action or decisions made on this agenda item; but the discussion could clear up some questions.
Brian Johnson, District 9 alderperson, says many council members have been working to understand the lawsuit and what it means to the city. Additionally, taxpayers are essentially those who fund the city’s budget, so the cost of a lawsuit is important to them, too.
“Every year we build in funding that is made available for lawsuits, for defense mechanisms,” said Johnson. “This is one that was unanticipated, so we just have to understand the cost impact.”
Jesse Brunette, City Council President, says that it’s currently unknown what any potential costs may be.
“That’s really the bottom line when you look at a potential legal defense,” said Brunette. “A few of attorneys; that could be a few hundred dollars an hour. I want to make sure we’re having a good discussion.”
There is also a Parks Committee meeting on Wednesday at 5 p.m. to examine the audio surveillance issue, since the Parks Committee oversees City Hall. Tuesday’s Finance Committee meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in person at Green Bay City Hall or virtually on Zoom. The agendas for each meeting can be found below.
The public is expected to have more information regarding the lawsuit later in the week.
