GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – With a potential whopper of a winter storm fast approaching, many people around Northeast Wisconsin are getting ready.
Green Bay Police Commander, Kevin Warych reminds people to be extra safe when driving.
“The best thing people can do is just slow down, give people ample distance, make sure they know where they’re going, be conscious of their surroundings.”
He says if you do get stuck in the snow to make sure to call police.
“The best thing they can do in this inclement weather is stay with their vehicle, tell the police where their location is, and we will come to you to prevent further harm.”
Some people are excited about the snow, staff members at Ariens Nordic Center say they expect to see a lot more skiers on the course in the next few days.
“In the winter time we’re not outside as much as we are in the summer time in Wisconsin, but this gives people something to do,” says, AriensCo Communications Manager, Aaron Abler.
The center just recently opened. Abler says although they can make snow, the warm weather days this past month have not helped.
“Sometimes we do have to temporarily close the trails…this week is going to be great for us…should bring a lot of people out.”
Brillion Power Equipment is also gearing up for the storm.
“With the amount of snow we’re getting this week, we definitely would expect some sales coming in, we definitely expect people to come in, upgrade their machine…with that heavier wetter snow, people don’t want to shovel this time of year,” says AriensCo Product Manager for Snow, Nik Krueger.
Krueger recommends to stay on top of your snow removal as it comes down, don’t wait for it to pile up.
Warych says the Green Bay Police Department is prepared to collaborate with other city services.
“When we collaborate we’re more useful, we provide a better service, and most importantly, we’re better prepared in the event that we’re called upon during this weather event.”
The system is forecast to move in today and sticks around through Thursday night.
