The Green Bay Phoenix men’s and women’s basketball squads were back on the floor Thursday night and both games were blowouts.
We’ll go ladies first.
The Phoenix women dominated Purdue Fort Wayne on the road 60-32 to run their winning streak to 10 straight games. GB raced out to a 13-0 lead and rolled from there. Sydney Levy led three in double figures with 12 points, Bailey Butler added 11 and Maddie Schreiber had 10. Green Bay’s defense held the Mastadons to 19.4% shooting in allowing a season low in points. The Lady Phoenix are now 13-3 on the season, 6-1 in the Horizon League and their biggest test awaits Saturday when they travel to Cleveland State. The Vikings defeated Milwaukee 81-50 Thursday night for their 15th straight win. Cleveland State is 16-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
As for the Green Bay men, they returned to the Resch Center for the first time in nearly three weeks but the home court didn’t help as they got thrashed by visiting Wright State 99-67. The Raiders shot a remarkable 71.9% from the floor, making 17 of their first 21 shots to build a comfortable first half lead. The Phoenix closed to within 42-36 early in the second half but Wright State dominated the rest of the way. Freshman Brandon Noel finished with 32 points and 12 rebounds making 14 of his 17 shots. Former Phoenix guard Amari Davis had 15 against his old club. Cade Meyer led five in double figures with 13 for Green Bay, Garren Davis and Zae Blake contributed 12. GB drops to 2-16 on the year, 1-6 in Horizon League play. They’ll host Northern Kentucky Saturday night at 6:00 PM. Milwaukee grabbed sole possession of first place in the Horizon by beating the Norse Thursday night 80-75.
