GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay Police Department is recommending charges to the Brown County District Attorney’s Office for Michael Destaercke, 31, Green Bay, who was arrested on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, following a more than seven-hour standoff on the City’s west side.
Charges including two counts of resisting or obstructing an officer, failure to comply with an officer’s attempt to take a person into custody, and probation violation have been referred up to the Brown County District Attorney’s Office.
Destaercke is scheduled to make a court appearance today.
The incident on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, began around 12:15 p.m. in the 700 block of South Ridge Road when an officer had identified Destaercke at his home and attempted to make contact as he was wanted on a felony probation/parole warrant. The suspect then proceeded to barricade himself inside, refusing to come out despite police orders. With no surrender, SWAT along with K9 were forced to enter the home to bring Destaercke into custody, which occurred around 7:45 p.m. without further incident.
SWAT commander Keith Gering says that during the incident, the neighbors were required to shelter in place in order to ensure public safety.
“When we arrive, we get briefed on everything that has occurred up to that point of when we arrived,” said Gering. “Then we use our safety priorities to look at how we are going to respond and the techniques that we use.”
This remains an active investigation.
