GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Police are looking for new ways to ensure those experiencing domestic violence know the resources available to them.
The Green Bay Police Department is now adding magnets with the Be Safe hotline number to its squad cars.
The Be Safe campaign, which launched in October, connects victims of domestic violence with experienced staff at Golden House. They just need to call (920) 212-SAFE or go to 920212safe.com to get help.
While domestic violence awareness month may be in October, domestic violence is more prevalent during the holiday months. The Green Bay police hope the magnets will help raise and spread awareness during the holiday season.
“November and December are hard business times for us at Golden House,” said Golden House Executive Director Cheeia Lo.
“We not only receive more calls, but people stay in our shelter tend to stay longer as well. In 2021, the average shelter stay was 21 days; in December, that number jumped to 43 days.”
The department also handed out bracelets and pamphlets to remind people of the hotline resource.
