MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Manitowoc school is back open after exterminators spent the weekend killing dozens of spiders that bit a student and a teacher.
The superintendent at Wilson Middle School confirmed classes resume today.
Classes at the school were dismissed early last Thursday after the student was bitten. The student brushed the spider off and the bite area became itchy and swollen.
The teacher who was bitten needed medical treatment.
The yellow sac spiders were concentrated in an area near the library. They were also found in some classrooms.
According to Michigan State University, yellow sac spiders are aggressive and may bite humans more than any other spider.
They’re often found in corners of walls and ceilings. The spiders tend to blend in with light- or neutral-colored walls because of their pale color.
