GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Give the gift of life this holiday season by giving blood. The 17th Annual Green Bay Winter Holiday Blood Drive is December 23 from 7 a.m. to noon at St. John the Baptist School, and December 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ashwaubenon Community Center. Donors will receive an exclusive Red Cross long-sleeved t-shirt while supplies last.
Donating blood takes about one hour from start to finish; and all blood types are needed. However, Laura McGuire, Regional Communications Manager for the Red Cross of Wisconsin, says that the winter season typically sees fewer donations.
“Back in January we did have a blood crisis,” said McGuire. “I’m happy to say that we have recuperated from that.”
She says the reason for fewer donations is travel, illness, and unpredictable weather.
Those who have gotten the COVID-19 vaccine or flu vaccine are still able to donate blood after their vaccinations; as long as they are feeling healthy on the day they donate.
Appointments are strongly encouraged, but walk-ins are welcomed. for more information and to make an appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.org.
A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
