GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The gun deer season is officially over in Wisconsin. Many food pantry’s across the state have deer donation programs that allow hunters to donate their game, and the community to enjoy the venison.
However, the deer donation program at Paul’s Pantry in Green Bay has had fewer donations of deer this year compared to previous years. Craig Robbins, Executive Director of Paul’s Pantry, says he thinks this is because hunters don’t want to go through the process of testing deer for Chronic Wasting Disease.
“We had a lot of phone calls with people telling us they weren’t going to go through that.” said Robbins. “They were just going to bone out the deer and keep it themselves.”
This year, 39 deer have been donated to Paul’s Pantry. Last year had 46, and 2020 had 54.
