GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Green Bay tree was selected to be the center of the Packers Festival of Lights.
Paula and Al VanderGrinten donated their 45-foot blue spruce tree to be on display outside Lambeau Field.
The tree was donated in memory of the couple’s son, Garrett, who passed away in 2019 from colon cancer.
For donating their tree, the VanderGrinten’s will receive four tickets to the Packers-Vikings game on Jan. 1.
The tree will be harvested on the morning of Nov. 28 and erected on Harlan Plaza. The decoration of the tree will follow later in the week with more than 10,000 lights.
Then on Saturday, Dec. 3, the Packers will host their 16th annual Festival of Lights from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The family-themed, free event will feature holiday movies and cartoons, holiday card making, cookie decorating, area high school choirs performing holiday music and photo opportunities with Santa Claus.
At 6:30 p.m., the event will move out onto Harlan Plaza for the formal lighting of the tree.
Volunteers will also be on hand during the event to collect toys and donations for Toys for Tots. Families attending Festival of Lights are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys to help families in need this holiday season.
