BUCHANAN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Fireworks may not be going off in Buchanan next year as originally expected.
The Wisconsin International Raceway was expected to host its fourth Pyrotechnics Guild International convention next August. However, the PGI Convention posted on its website Wednesday, saying it can’t commit to the Fox Cities community after all.
The post states:
“With apologies to our members and the Fox Cities community, the PGI regrets to announce that, pending regulatory approval, we cannot commit to holding our 2023 convention at the Wisconsin International Raceway in the Town of Buchanan.”
The post explains that the convention’s applications for the required permits are being filed with the town this week.
Kaukauna Mayor Tony Penterman had shared his excitement back in September. Penterman had said he expected the convention to bring the city an economic impact of at least $5 million.
A final decision on the venue location is expected in the middle of January.
