GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay Police Department is hosting a drug take-back event this Saturday.
Police Chief Chris Davis says events like this are important in combating opioid addiction.
“In a drug overdose death situation, you’ll find that the problem actually started with the misuse of prescription pain medication,” Davis told WTAQ.
Opioids, including fentanyl, heroin, and prescription painkillers, are the leading cause of drug overdose death in the US. There are two drop off sites open Saturday. One is at the emergency department of HSHS St. Mary’s Medical Center, the other at N.E.W. Community Clinic. They’ll be open from 10am to 1pm.
