PULASKI, WI (WTAQ) — Shawano County Sheriff’s officials are looking to speak to any victims or witnesses of a bonfire explosion over the weekend in the Township of Maple Grove that resulted in dozens of injuries, mostly to current and former Pulaski High School students.
Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Madle says what exactly happened still isn’t clear, but what they do know is that shortly after someone poured an accelerant, possibly diesel fuel, on the fire during a party on Saturday, the resulting blaze left dozens injured.
“We had multiple victims who were flown out to burn units in Milwaukee and Madison,” Madle said. “Some victims have already been released from the hospital.”
Madle says several victims reportedly have burns over 30% of their bodies, and some are in critical condition.
There are believed to have been between 30 and 40 victims in total. 17 of which self-transported to the hospital.
Sheriff’s investigators aren’t being allowed to conduct interviews at Pulaski Schools Monday.
Investigators are asking any victims or witnesses they haven’t spoken with yet to meet Wednesday at the Pulaski Police Department between 4 and 9 pm. In addition to statements, they’re also looking for anyone with any video evidence to submit it to the Sheriff’s department.
