GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Experience Green Bay is receiving more funding for its $8 million visitor center project.
Brown County officials presented Experience Green Bay with a $650,000 grant Thursday for the Discover Green Bay Visitor Center.
The grant comes from American Rescue Plan Act funding. Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach says these ARPA dollars were specifically for tourism.
“The Discover Green Bay Visitor Center is a project that will benefit our entire region. The county is excited to support this project with ARPA dollars identified for tourism. This project will positively impact, not only visitor experience, but will be a critical tool for recruitment and relocation of talented individuals and families to Brown County.”
The state has also given the project $2.5 million in COVID-19 relief funds from the Tourism Capital Grant Program.
Supporters of the project have emphasized the benefit of increased tourism in the community.
Tourism brought a total economic impact of more than $1 billion to Brown County in 2021.
“We know that tourism is key to the economic health of any community,” said Patrick Buckley, Brown County Board Chair. “The Discover Green Bay Visitors Center will take our already robust tourism economy and improve it.”
Construction began in June at the site near the Lombardi exit of Highway 41.
The visitor center is expected to be completed next summer.
