ORLANDO, FLA (WTAQ) – A Howard family is getting an upclose look at Hurricane Ian. Jerome Allen, his wife and two children, planned a family getaway to Orlando, Florida a year ago.
After flying in last Saturday they’ve had a couple of days to visit the theme parks. But now they’re confined to the hotel to wait out the storm. Allen is hoping they can make it out on their flight back home this Saturday.
“We’re pretty optimistic, we’re pretty safe here. We’re just hoping to we don’t lose power.”
While on a different scale, Allen says the family has dealt with severe weather situations right here at home.
“I think it’s pretty relatable to tornado watch, tornado warning. So that’s how we’re treating it.”
As far as the hotel they’re staying at, Allen says the staff has been going about their regular business, but…….
“They recommended that we don’t leave the hotel at any point during the peak hours of the storm.”
So, for the next few days they’re going watch how things play out in other parts of the state, stay indoors and stay safe.
While not taking the wallop the gulf coast is, Orlando is projected to get plenty of wind and 8-to-16 inches of rain.
