Kolton Wong had one of those nights in Cincinnati. The Milwaukee Brewers second baseman whacked three home runs and drove in all five in the Crew’s series opening 5-1 victory over the Reds at the Great American Ballpark. It was the first three homer game of his career, opening with a two run shot in the second inning, adding another two run line drive that just cleared the right field wall in the 6th and capped it off with a solo shot that just hooked inside the right field foul poll in the 8th. On a night where Milwaukee managed all of four hits, Wong had three and they all left the yard, giving him 15 on the season, another career high.
Brandon Woodruff was equally as dominant on the mound, continuing his late season surge. He worked six innings and gave up three hits, one run when Kyle Farmer took him deep in the 6th, while striking out 11. Three relievers finished it off as the Brewers improved to 80-70. They remain two and a half games behind Philadelphia for the final wild card spot as the Phillies shaded the Atlanta Braves 1-0. They did pick up ground on San Diego however, just three back of the Padres who fell to St. Louis 5-4.
