GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay Packers team officials and banks are warning of the possibility of duplicate charges if you attended Sunday night’s game.
The Packers say FreedomPay, the payment processor for the team’s food and drink provider, is voiding all extra transactions before they are processed. But the worry fans feel continues.
Charlie Keller is from Kohler and says, even though he’s a Bears fan, Lambeau Field is one of his favorite places to be.
“The atmosphere at Lambeau Field is pretty much unmatched.”
He went to Sunday night’s game with his brother. When he looked at his transactions the next day, he noticed he was charged double for his beers and his pretzel.
He says the charges are still pending as of Tuesday.
“There was what should’ve been just over a $30 total, ended up being $60.”
The Packers say the duplicate charges are due to a worldwide FreedomPay issue.
Kristina Flores with Prospera Credit Union says something like this may affect your available balance for spending but not your actual balance.
“When a charge is pending, it’s just showing that you’ve done the transaction, and it’s sort of hanging out there, but it hasn’t actually cleared your account yet.”
Prospera says it got in contact with Lambeau. Delaware North, the Packers’ food and drink provider, instructed the credit union to tell members to email szimmer@delawarenorth.com with questions about the charges.
Flores says in instances like duplicate charges, you would contact the vendor rather than your bank.
“Of course, if it does come through cleared, duplicated, yes, make sure you contact the email. But I wouldn’t be worried in the fact that you’re never going to get your money back.”
The stadium went completely cashless in 2020. Some football fans like Keller say a cash option should be available because of a problem like this.
“There are benefits for having cashless concessions, but I feel like overall, just the value of having cash on you is still important.”
