Milwaukee Brewers
As bad as the month of August was for the Milwaukee Brewers, the sixth game of September may be the worst of them all. The Brewers blew a 6-1 lead after 7 innings and fell to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field Tuesday night 10-7 in 10 innings. Randall Grichuk hit a three run, walk off home run off Taylor Rogers to rally the home side to the win. Milwaukee got their long balls early, Christian Yelich led off the game with a towering homer off Chad Kuhl. It landed in the third deck, covering 499 feet, the second longest home run ever hit at Coors Field and the longest by a left handed hitter. Hunter Renfro added a two run blast to stake Brandon Woodruff to a 3-0 lead. Woodruff was exceptionally sharp, giving up a solo homer in the third but grinding through seven innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 5. Manager Craig Counsell turned to his bullpen and the Rockies put on their rally caps. Luis Perdomo gave up four runs without recording an out, Yonathan Daza knocked him off the mound with a three run shot. Peter Stzelecki was next and he gave up a game tying homer to Grichuk. The Brewers got an RBI double from Willy Adames in the top of the 10th to go back on top but Rogers couldn’t hold the slim lead. A first pitch single got the game even and after an intentional walk, Grichuk put the Brewers out of their misery. Milwaukee is now 71-64 and lost on a night when the Cardinals, Phillies and Padres all won. The Brewers are now 8 and a half games behind St. Louis and all but out of the NL Central race and they trail Philadelphia and San Diego by three in the Wild Card chase. Eric Lauer will face Kyle Freeland in the series and road trip finale Wednesday afternoon. Pre-game coverage begins at 1:35 PM with a 2:10 PM first pitch on WNFL.
