GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An area fire department is warning the public of fraudulent fundraising calls.
The Grand Chute Fire Department says it received a report from a citizen who said someone called them over the weekend asking for donations for the fire department’s Family Safety Day.
The citizen said the caller also asked for credit card information.
The fire department says this is a scam. Officials from the department do not solicit funds from the public for any reason and they will never call an individual asking for a donation or request any form of payment.
Here are some tips to keep you safe from these kinds of calls:
Always think twice before picking up a call or answering a text message from an unidentified number or unknown area code.
Let calls go to voicemail and confirm call-back numbers on a company website.
Do not confirm or share any sensitive information over the phone. Even something as simple as confirming your name may make you vulnerable.
Do not respond to any sense of urgency request. If you are unsure, hang up and call the main public line of any service requesting information.
