APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Grand Chute man has been charged with selling drugs in connection with the deaths of two men outside a hotel over the weekend.
Gregory G. Clowers, 58, faces charges of delivering fentanyl and manufacturing and delivering cocaine. Prosecutors tell Fox 11 he could face reckless homicide charges at a later date. Cash bond was set at $50,000.
According to the criminal complaint, around 2 a.m., Clowers approached a group of men in a van at the Rodeway Inn in Grand Chute early Sunday morning. Police said they recognized Clowers on surveillance video.
The complaint goes on to say that an officer found two men unresponsive outside the hotel around 3 a.m. Bags with white powdery substances were found on both men. One of the bags tested positive for fentanyl, and the other tested positive for cocaine.
Both men were taken to the hospital, where they died.
Officers discovered that the men were part of a larger group that had been staying in the hotel for about a week. Police found those men inside the hotel; two needed to be taken to the hospital.
Police described Clowers to the men and the men were able to identify him based on that description.
Meanwhile, an officer spotted Clowers at a grocery store. Police arrested Clowers after he came back out.
Prosecutors say Clowers admitted selling what he believed to be powder cocaine to two of the men at the hotel.
If convicted, Clowers could be sentenced to as much as 40 years in prison.
