APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Voters in the Appleton school district will have two referendum questions on their ballots this November.
The district will ask voters to approve $129.8 million for a new elementary school, additions to the high schools, science and math additions to the middle schools and updates to the elementary school buildings.
A second question will ask for $5 million per year to add science and math teachers, reduce class sizes in kindergarten through second grade and operate new spaces.
The district has been studying facility needs for several years. One concern has been the lack of an elementary school north of Interstate 41, where most of the city’s growth is occurring.
The district says if both referendums pass, an extra 39 cents per $1,000 of value would be added to property taxes in the district. That means the owner of a house valued at $200,000 would pay an extra $78 per year in property taxes.
