GIBSON, WI (WTAQ) — A local lawmaker is crying foul over the state department in charge of professional licensure in Wisconsin.
State Representative Shae Sortwell (R-Gibson) says no significant progress has been made in clearing the backlog at the Department of Safety and Professional Standards.
“People have, depending on the license and the application specifically, they could be waiting a year to get a license,” Sortwell told WTAQ. “They’re not actually making sure the work is getting done. So we’re getting significant complaints from people trying to get their licenses. Trying to become nurses or social workers.”
It’s in spite of millions of dollars in additional funding for new employees and software upgrades.
“I want those positions filled so that there’s actually people to do the work, I want the people to actually show up to the office to do the work, because a lot of these applications are still paper. They’re hard copy.”
