WAUPACA COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – With a contested primary for sheriff besides the gubernatorial and senate races, Waupaca County is seeing a higher-than-expected turnout and is printing extra ballots Tuesday night.
Green Bay City Clerk Celestine Jeffries confirmed the city has also printed extra ballots, though she did not specify how many.
Waupaca County Clerk Kristy Opperman said additional ballots were printed for four municipalities. A file with ballots the clerks can print themselves was sent to another three communities.
If the communities print their own ballots, those will have to be counted by hand after the polls close, which delayed final results by a bit, Opperman told FOX 11.
Sheriff Tim Wilz kept his job in a race against Sgt. Cameron Durrant in a Republican primary. Wilz and District Attorney Veronica Isherwood have traded barbs about the handling of police reports in the weeks leading up to today’s vote.
