APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A woman who tried to rob at gunpoint the fast-food restaurant where she used to work was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison.
Melissa Mann, 43, previously pleaded no contest to attempted armed robbery for the Nov. 16 incident at a Greenville McDonald’s.
She was also placed on extended supervision for five years by Outagamie County Judge Mitchell Metropulos, who noted a need for in-custody treatment for addiction and mental health issues.
Before the sentence was issued, Mann apologized to her former co-workers for making them fear for their lives.
Prosecutors say the incident began when a woman ordered a soda in the drive-thru. At the first drive-thru window, she showed a BB gun and demanded money from the till. One worker left the station to get another employee, and by the time they returned, the suspect had driven away, the complaint states.
After initially denying her role in the incident, Mann admitted to it, according to the criminal complaint.
“I’m broke. I can’t even afford a pack of cigarettes. I used to work there and they fired me,” the complaint quotes Mann as saying. “Melissa indicated she went there because she knew the employees and managers don’t care and don’t pay attention.”
