GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Packers are awarding a quarter-million dollar grant to St. John’s Ministries through its Green Bay Packers Give Back program.
St. John’s, which started in 2005, says it must make significant changes to its buildings and programming to continue to address the increasing needs of those experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.
“The Packers are proud to award the Packers Give Back Impact Grant to St. John’s Ministries for their transformative projects,” said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. “St. John’s serves many of our most vulnerable and at-risk neighbors by providing not only a warm meal and a safe place to sleep but resources and ongoing assistance for those facing homelessness.”
The $250,000 grant will be used for the ministries’ capital projects, which aim to create socially-inclusive housing as well as provide space for mental health services and gender-specific programming.
The specific projects include: renovating its men’s homeless shelter; purchasing a new building for the Micah Center, which is a daytime resource center for those experiencing homelessness; renovating a location dedicated to women which would include a daytime resource center and a shelter; and acquiring and renovating a building for socially-inclusive housing.
