APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — UPDATE: The Appleton Health Department has now confirmed three cases of monkeypox. Two other potential cases are under investigation.
The first case was confirmed on July 21 in an Appleton resident and a second, unrelated case, was confirmed on July 22. The third case was confirmed Monday.
Appleton Health Officer Dr. Charles Sepers says the department is monitoring this situation closely with local, state and federal partners, adding there is little risk for community transmission. The disease is transmitted through intimate partner-to-partner contact.
