GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Packers are in a good position — financially and on the field. This was one of the messages of the 2022 shareholders meeting.
Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy said the Packers have more prime-time games in 2022 than any other NFL team. He said it’s because of their on-field success.
“To accomplish what we’ve accomplished is very hard in the NFL,” Murphy said. “I know, obviously, we’re disappointed we haven’t had any Super Bowl championships to go with that, but I think we put ourselves in a position every year.”
Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst said he feels optimistic about the Packers roster. He said notable re-signings and a new special teams coordinator will make them a contender again, and fans agree.
“I think we’ll be top of the NFC North again and make another deep run in the playoffs,” Packers shareholder Parm Dhariwal said.
Murphy also said there’s a possibility of Green Bay hosting the NFL draft in either 2025 or 2027.
“Titletown and then, obviously, Resch Expo would be a big part of our plans for the draft,” he said.
Members of the Packers committee gave reports, which included information from the team’s annual financial report. Murphy announced new scoreboards as a result of the team’s stock sale.
“Our current boards are coming up on 10 years, so, I mean, they’re still good, but you go to some of the newer stadiums — you see the difference,” Murphy said.
Fans were happy about the scoreboard announcement.
“They showed an overlay of the old one and the new one, and the new one is significantly bigger,” Dhariwal said. “So, I’m looking forward to it. I think next season they said it would be done.”
Dhariwal is a new shareholder who was in attendance for the first time. He said it was a special experience.
“I think Mark Murphy said it’s the most unique business meeting in the world, which I would agree with,” he said.
Fans are also looking forward to a complete renovation of the concession stands set to take place in the next four or five years.
Murphy said he hopes to continue hosting more non-Packers events at Lambeau Field in the future.
